NOAA has made major progress toward assessing the status for fishery stocks over the past several years. By collecting and analyzing biological and statistical information on the fisheries, we are enabling our Federal, State and local decision-makers to make science-based decisions. This increases the sustainability of the fisheries and reduces the need to make overly conservative stock assessments.
